What is Athadu and why is it popular?
Athadu (transl. He) is a 2005 Indian Telugu-language action thriller film that revolves around Nandu, a professional assassin who is framed for the murder of a politician. He assumes the identity of Pardhu, a dead man who looks like him, and hides from the police in his village. There, he grows close to Pardhu's family and falls in love with his cousin Poori. However, his past catches up with him when a CBI officer starts investigating the case.
The plot of Athadu
The film begins with Nandu, an orphan who works as a hitman with his partner Malli. They are hired by Shiva Reddy, an opposition leader who wants to fake his own assassination attempt to gain sympathy votes. However, during the hit, someone else shoots Shiva Reddy dead, and Malli dies in an accident. Nandu escapes from the scene by jumping onto a train, where he meets Pardhu, a young man who is returning to his village after running away 12 years ago. At Gudivada, a sub-inspector spots Nandu and fires at him, but accidentally kills Pardhu instead. Nandu takes Pardhu's identity card and luggage and arrives at his village, Basarlapudi.
There, he is welcomed by Pardhu's family, who mistake him for their long-lost son. Nandu decides to stay with them until he finds a way out of his situation.
